The 2.0 diesel Ingenium engine used in the E-Pace is prone to timing chain stretch and failure. The root cause is oil dilution from incomplete DPF regenerations and insufficient oil changes, combined with weak chain guides. If the chain snaps, it destroys the engine by allowing pistons to hit valves.

The ZF 9HP 9-speed automatic transmission exhibits harsh shifts, gear hunting on hills, and hesitant downshifts. The software struggles with the closely-spaced gear ratios, particularly in low-speed urban driving and during cold operation. A TCM software update significantly improves shift quality.
