The most recent MOT, dated 5 January 2024, was a pass but flagged the rear sub‑frame stabiliser‑link dust covers as perished on both the nearside and offside. This is the only defect recorded across five inspections. The defect pattern is isolated to the rear sub‑frame stabiliser links. Dust‑cover failure can allow dirt and moisture to reach the link bearings, potentially leading to premature wear, noisy suspension movement and reduced rear‑wheel alignment stability. No other faults were noted in the earlier MOTs (2023, 2022, 2020 and 2019), so the issue appears to be emerging rather than a long‑standing problem. The trend is therefore mildly worsening – a new defect has appeared after several clean years. Mileage is very low for a 1990 model – about 80,000 mi over 36 years, roughly 2,200 mi per year. This could mean the car has been lightly used or has spent long periods idle. Low mileage does not automatically guarantee low wear; prolonged storage can cause corrosion, rubber degradation and seal drying. Conversely, the modest annual mileage suggests the drivetrain, brakes and suspension have not been heavily stressed, but the perished dust covers hint that at least part of the rear suspension may have been exposed to the elements for an extended time.
