Common Problems & Reliability
The 2011 Fiat Bravo has 2 known issues. 1 of these are classified as serious faults that could be expensive to repair. 1 are moderate concerns worth inspecting before purchase.
MultiAir Actuator Solenoid Failure
SeriousThe 1.4 MultiAir petrol engine replaces traditional camshaft intake valve operation with an electro-hydraulic actuator unit governed by engine oil pressure and high-speed solenoids. If incorrect non-specification oil is used or if service intervals exceed 12 months, oil micro-passages clog and internal actuator chambers fail to prime, leading to valve misfires, rough running, and loss of power requiring complete actuator replacement.
Symptoms: Persistent cylinder misfire and rough idle upon cold starting, Engine management light illuminated with OBD-II fault codes P1061, P1062, P1063, or P1064...
Est. repair cost: £700–£1,350
Climate Control Blend-Door Actuator Stripping
ModerateOn Bravos equipped with dual-zone automatic climate control, the small plastic drive splines connecting the stepper actuator motors to the internal heater flap levers become brittle and strip. The motor continues to spin while the internal flap remains stuck, leaving the car blowing only icy cold or scalding hot air on one or both sides of the cabin. Remedying the issue is notoriously labour-intensive because replacing the lower heater casing actuators requires extensive dashboard disassembly.
Symptoms: Rhythmic clicking or tapping sound behind the centre console for 10–20 seconds after switching on the ignition, Cabin heater blowing freezing cold air on the passenger side while driver side is set to hot (or vice versa)...
Est. repair cost: £300–£850
Buying Tips for the 2011 Fiat Bravo
- Test the electronic dual-zone climate control thoroughly by cycling from Lo to Hi on both sides; clicking behind the dashboard indicates broken plastic blend-flap motor splines.
- On six-speed manual 1.4 T-Jet 150 and early 1.9 MultiJet models with the GM-derived M32 gearbox, listen for bearing whine in 1st, 2nd, 5th, and 6th gears.
- Check that the Blue&Me Bluetooth and USB media system functions correctly and that the odometer is not flashing, which signals CAN-bus communication loss.
- Inspect front suspension wishbones and anti-roll bar drop links for knocks over broken road surfaces or speed cushions.
- Ensure the timing belt and water pump have been renewed within the recommended 5-year or 60,000-mile interval on all 1.4 T-Jet and MultiJet diesel engines.
