Ford Explorer EV
The Explorer EV is Ford's European family electric SUV: a 4.46m five-seater built in Cologne on Volkswagen's MEB platform, using VW motors and cells but Ford's own body, suspension tuning and SYNC Move cabin. It finally reached UK roads in mid-2024 after a year's delay, offered with 52kWh Standard Range, 77kWh Extended Range and 79kWh all-wheel-drive powertrains. It is roomy, quiet and quick enough, and the 2026 update brought an LFP standard pack, more range, Pro Power Onboard and list prices starting near £35,000. The risks are those of any new Ford EV: software and module glitches, 12V battery drain, charging handshake problems and rapid depreciation, which is why a tidy two-year-old example is now one of the used EV market's better family bargains.
