High-Pressure Hydraulic Brake Accumulator and Mineral Oil System Failure
SeriousBrakesThe Turbo R utilises a Citroën-licensed high-pressure dual-circuit hydraulic braking and self-levelling suspension system powered by two engine-driven mechanical pumps. Over time, the nitrogen-filled spherical brake accumulators lose their charge, internal seals in the brake distribution valves degrade, and corrosive mineral fluid (or incorrect DOT fluid mistakenly added) ruins the internal rubber seals. This causes rapid pedal stiffening, delayed braking assistance, and pump cavitation.
Hard brake pedal feel on initial application, Brake pressure warning lights blinking on dashboard after standing, Excessive clicking cycle rate from hydraulic pump regulator valves, Mineral hydraulic fluid puddles underneath rear suspension struts or accumulator blocks
- Depress the brake pedal repeatedly with the engine off to test accumulator reserve pressure before the warning lamp illuminates
- Verify that green Castrol RR363 or mineral hydraulic fluid reservoir is at correct level with no contamination
- Inspect flexible hydraulic rubber hoses and metal pipe runs along chassis rails for corrosion or weeping
- Check that rear ride-height levels quickly after starting without pump judder
