The final year of Chiron production before the Tourbillon replacement. These last cars are the most refined and best-maintained, with all accumulated improvements applied.
The Chiron uses a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission that handles 1,600 Nm of torque. Mechatronic unit failures can cause erratic gear changes, failure to engage gears, and transmission warning lights. The gearbox oil and filter must be changed at every service. Early cars were more prone to software-related gearbox issues, though hardware failures can occur.
While improved over the Veyron, the Chiron's W16 still suffers from oil leaks as it ages. Valve cover gaskets, turbo oil return lines, and the dry-sump system seals degrade from heat cycling. The Chiron's higher power output generates even more thermal stress on these components. Early detection is critical to prevent turbo damage from oil starvation.
The Chiron features an active rear wing and front splitter that adjust automatically for downforce, braking, and top-speed modes. The hydraulic actuators and linkages can develop play or fail, causing aerodynamic imbalance and warning lights. The rear wing also functions as an airbrake, so reliability is safety-critical.
While simplified from the Veyron's ten-radiator setup, the Chiron still uses a multi-circuit cooling system with dedicated circuits for the engine, intercoolers, transmission, and oil. Hose connections, thermostat housings, and coolant pumps are potential failure points. Overheating can cause catastrophic damage to the W16.
The Chiron's complex electronics suite — managing everything from the W16 engine to the active aerodynamics and climate control — can develop software-related faults. Infotainment freezes, sensor calibration issues, and intermittent warning lights are reported. Bugatti addresses these through software updates, but not all owners keep up with updates.
