Fuel Level Sensor and Fuel Pump Failure

ModerateFuel System

Early C8 Corvettes can suffer from failing fuel level sensors and fuel pumps. Erroneous low-fuel warnings, fluctuating gauge readings and check engine lights can appear even when the tank is full, leaving the driver unsure of actual range and at risk of running out of fuel unexpectedly. In some cases the fuel sender unit or pump requires dealer replacement, which involves draining and dropping the tank on the mid-engine layout. This is a known issue on early UK right-hand-drive examples and can be expensive given the limited Corvette dealer network.

Est. Repair Cost: £250–£650
Warning Signs:

Fuel gauge reads empty or fluctuates despite a full tank, 'Low Fuel' warning displayed with a full tank, Check engine light illuminated, Fuel range estimate drops unpredictably

What to Inspect:
  • Fill the tank and observe whether the gauge reads full and holds steady
  • Scan for fuel level sensor fault codes such as P0460–P0463
  • Ask whether the fuel sender or pump has been replaced under warranty
