Common Problems with the
2019 Ford Edge

Major facelift in early 2019 introducing Euro 6d 2.0-litre EcoBlue diesel engines, an 8-speed automatic with rotary dial shifter, and revised ST-Line styling.

What changed for 2019

  • •Introduction of 2.0 EcoBlue diesel engines with up to 238PS twin-turbo performance
  • •Adoption of smooth 8-speed torque-converter automatic transmission with rotary gear selector
  • •Revised front grille, full-LED headlights, and enhanced Co-Pilot360 driver assist suite

Common MOT watch-outs

  • !AdBlue NOx sensor failure triggering engine management warning lamp
  • !Rear trailing arm bush delamination under the heavy 2-tonne curb weight
  • !Electric parking brake motor hesitation or uneven rear brake effort

All Known Issues

2.0 EcoBlue AdBlue SCR System and NOx Sensor Failure

ModerateExhaust & Emissions

On 2018–2021 facelift models equipped with the 2.0-litre EcoBlue diesel engine, the Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) exhaust emissions system is prone to premature component failure. The upstream and downstream nitrogen oxide (NOx) sensors frequently suffer internal ceramic heater circuit failure or become fouled with soot. Furthermore, crystallised urea deposits can clog the AdBlue dosing injector in the exhaust downpipe, triggering an engine management warning and initiating an irreversible countdown preventing engine restart within 500 miles.

Est. Repair Cost: £350–£850
Warning Signs:

Amber engine management warning light illuminated with diagnostic trouble codes P229E or P20EE, No Engine Restart in XXX miles warning message displayed permanently on the instrument cluster, White powdery urea crystallization visible around the exhaust SCR injector nozzle assembly

What to Inspect:
  • Scan the OBD-II diagnostic port for stored or pending NOx sensor and SCR efficiency trouble codes
  • Confirm that the vehicle displays a normal AdBlue range and does not show an active non-restart countdown

Panoramic Sunroof Blind and Mechanism Sticking

MinorInterior & Trim

The optional dual-panel panoramic glass sunroof fitted to Titanium and Vignale trims incorporates an electrically motorized glass sliding panel and a motorized fabric sunblind. Over time, road dust and debris accumulate within the unsealed roof guide channels, drying out the factory lithium grease. As operating resistance increases, the anti-pinch safety sensor trips, causing the glass or blind to jam halfway, twist in the tracks, or shudder violently during operation.

Est. Repair Cost: £200–£600
Warning Signs:

Panoramic sunroof slides forward then immediately reverses or jams before closing completely, Motor makes straining, groaning, or clicking noises when operating the sliding glass panel, Fabric sunblind sags, unclips from side guide channels, or wrinkles when retracting into headlining

What to Inspect:
  • Operate both the electric panoramic glass and motorized sunblind through full opening and closing cycles
  • Inspect the sunroof guide channels and front drain tubes for debris accumulation and grease contamination
