The oil-bath timing belt on early EcoBoost engines sheds material if servicing or oil quality is wrong. Rubber debris clogs the oil pickup strainer, causing oil starvation and potential total engine failure. Ford recommended 10-year interval is widely considered too long.
Expansion tanks, hoses and thermostat housings can leak coolant gradually. On 1.6 EcoBoost models, the degas hose recall (Recall 14S06/17S09) addressed a brittle hose that could split without warning causing catastrophic coolant loss.
SYNC 2 and SYNC 3 touchscreens can freeze, go black or suffer Bluetooth dropouts. Door-latch mechanisms can fail preventing proper locking or causing phantom door-ajar warnings.
