Common Problems with the
2026 Kia Niro (SG2)
The January 2026 facelift brought Kia's Star Map lighting, new 18-inch wheels and a horizontal dashboard with dual 12.3-inch screens. In Korea the update pared the range back to the HEV, so confirm what the UK pricelist still offers.
What changed for 2026
- •Revised front and rear ends with the Star Map lighting signature and new 18-inch wheel designs
- •New horizontal dashboard, two-spoke steering wheel and twin 12.3-inch displays in place of the old cabin
- •Korean-market line-up cut to the 1.6 HEV only after the facelift, dropping the PHEV and EV there
- •Mechanically carry-over: the 1.6 GDi hybrid and six-speed DCT are unchanged
Common MOT watch-outs
- !LED headlamp units are costly to replace and still have to pass beam aim and pattern checks
- !Rear brake corrosion remains common on low-mileage hybrids that rarely use the friction brakes
- !Bumper and undertray mounting damage after kerb or speed-cushion strikes
