Common Problems with the
2013 MINI Paceman (R61)

The Paceman was unveiled to the UK on 21 March 2013: a three-door shooting-brake version of the Countryman, again built by Magna Steyr in Graz, sold as a 2013 model with lowered, stiffer suspension. Range: N18 122hp Cooper and 184hp Cooper S, One D/Cooper D 1.6 diesels, Cooper SD 2.0 and the 218hp JCW, with ALL4 availability varying by market. There was never a facelift - engine refinements through 2014-2016 - and MINI axed it at the end of 2016 for sitting too close to the Countryman.

What changed for 2013

  • •Only three-door SUV Mini of its era, with coupe-styled tailgate
  • •ALL4 optional across most variants depending on market
  • •Lowered, dynamically-focused suspension setting versus the R60

Common MOT watch-outs

  • !Front suspension bushes and ball joints on UK roads
  • !ALL4 driveline strain from mismatched tyres
  • !Exhaust and brake-pipe corrosion on later diesel cars
  • !Boot-area moisture around the tailgate seals
