Pedal Box Housing Weld Defect and Master Cylinder Movement
SeriousBrakesOn early-production 2023 Super 3 models, third-party manufactured pedal box housings were fabricated outside engineering drawing specifications with defective welds at the master cylinder mounting flange. Under repeated or hard emergency braking, weld fracture permits the master cylinder to deflect, breaking the hydraulic hose seal or binding the brake assembly so the pedal fails to return, creating a critical safety hazard.
Brake pedal sticking down or failing to return smoothly to resting position, Brakes binding or dragging during and after moderate brake applications, Visible deflection or movement of the master cylinder body under pedal pressure, Fluid weeping around the master cylinder hydraulic union under load
- Inspect the pedal box housing and master cylinder mounting welds for cracks or weld failure
- Check GOV.UK recall records or official dealer campaign history for safety bulletin remedy
- Depress the brake pedal hard while observing the master cylinder for structural flexing
