High-Voltage Battery Degradation
SeriousElectrics & ElectronicsEarly 24kWh cars, especially pre-2013 Japanese-built examples, can lose a substantial chunk of usable range. The passive air cooling means heat from repeated DC rapid charging or motorway speeds accelerates capacity loss. As capacity drops, winter range can fall below 45 miles, requiring refurbished cell modules or an outright pack replacement to restore usability.
Low battery health capacity bar count on right side of instrument cluster, Rapid range depletion in cold winter temperatures, Refusal to rapid charge at full CHAdeMO speed
- Count capacity health bars on the right of the instrument cluster (12 bars is full)
- Get an accurate State of Health (SOH) reading using an OBD dongle and LeafSpy
- Conduct a five-mile test drive to verify battery percentage does not plummet abnormally
