1.2 PureTech "Wet Belt" Degradation

SeriousEngine

The 1.2-litre PureTech three-cylinder petrol engine uses an internal timing belt submerged in engine oil. The rubber belt chemically degrades from fuel dilution and thermal cycling, flaking particulate debris into the engine oil. This debris clogs the oil pickup strainer, starving the top end of oil and blocking the vacuum pump, which abruptly eliminates servo braking assistance and can precipitate total engine seizure (addressed in UK recall R/2020/331).

Est. Repair Cost: £600–£1,800
Warning Signs:

Low engine oil pressure warning light on dashboard, Noticeable hardening of the brake pedal due to vacuum pump starvation, Visible fraying, cracks, or swollen width on the belt viewed through the oil filler cap, Check engine warning light accompanied by fault code P15A8 or P0011

What to Inspect:
  • Inspect the timing belt width and surface through the oil filler cap using a gauge or torch
  • Verify documented service history proving annual oil changes with correct PSA B71 2312 or B71 2010 spec oil
  • Check DVSA database to confirm safety recall R/2020/331 has been completed

AdBlue / BlueHDi Emissions Failure

SeriousExhaust & Emissions

On 1.5 BlueHDi diesel variants, the selective catalytic reduction (SCR) urea injection system is prone to failure. The AdBlue reservoir houses an integral pump, heating element, and level sensor that are not sold separately. Urea crystallization and electronics failure inside the tank trigger an engine fault light and a non-restart countdown (commencing at 700 miles), after which the ECU prevents the engine from firing. Replacement of the entire tank assembly is required.

Est. Repair Cost: £800–£1,500
Warning Signs:

Emissions fault or UREA warning light permanently illuminated, Instrument cluster displays countdown warning: non-restart permitted in 700 miles, Crystallised white urea residue visible around filler neck or tank breather, Stored diagnostic trouble codes P20EE, P208E, or P20A2

What to Inspect:
  • Check dashboard multi-function display for any active urea countdown messages or emissions warnings
  • Inspect service history for previous dealer AdBlue tank replacements or software calibration updates
  • Perform OBD-II diagnostic scan to verify no pending SCR or NOx sensor fault codes

1.5 BlueHDi Camshaft Timing Chain Failure

SeriousEngine

The 16-valve 1.5 BlueHDi (DV5R) diesel engine features an internal 7mm chain connecting the twin camshafts. Inadequate lubrication tolerance and high tension cause the 7mm chain to stretch and snap prematurely, resulting in bent valves, broken rocker arms, sheared camshaft carriers, and catastrophic engine destruction. Stellantis updated production to an 8mm chain with redesigned cylinder head housing from early 2023.

Est. Repair Cost: £1,200–£3,500
Warning Signs:

Metallic clattering or slapping noise from top right of engine on cold startup, Sudden loss of engine power followed by inability to restart, Engine spins unusually fast during cranking due to loss of compression, Check engine light with camshaft position sensor correlation codes

What to Inspect:
  • Listen carefully to the camshaft cover area for metallic ticking or rattling when starting cold
  • Ask whether the engine has received the 8mm camshaft chain conversion kit under manufacturer warranty
  • Confirm strict 12-month service intervals with PSA B71 2010 (0W-20) specification engine oil

e-2008 On-Board Charger (OBC) Failure

SeriousElectrics & Electronics

The all-electric e-2008 incorporates an AC on-board charger (single-phase 7.4 kW or three-phase 11 kW) manufactured by Mahle. Internal electronics and isolation circuitry within early units are susceptible to failure, causing charging to abort immediately or tripping domestic electricity supplies. When the OBC fails, the car cannot be charged via AC wallboxes, showing high-voltage electrical warnings.

Est. Repair Cost: £1,500–£2,800
Warning Signs:

Charging flap LED status light flashes red immediately after plugging into AC charger, Domestic consumer unit or home wallbox trips out as soon as charging commences, "Traction battery fault: Have vehicle repaired" warning on driver display, Vehicle charges normally on DC rapid chargers but completely rejects Type 2 AC charging

What to Inspect:
  • Plug the car into a Type 2 AC wallbox and confirm charging initiates and maintains full speed
  • Inspect vehicle service history to confirm if the on-board charger has been replaced under warranty
  • Scan vehicle diagnostic memory for high-voltage isolation or OBC internal communication DTCs

i-Cockpit Touchscreen and Digital Display Glitches

ModerateElectrics & Electronics

The central infotainment touchscreen and 3D digital instrument binnacle frequently suffer software instability. Symptoms include complete screen blackouts, sluggish menu transitions, freezing navigation, and Bluetooth or wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto dropouts. Because climate control functions are embedded solely in the touchscreen, a frozen screen prevents heating and demisting adjustments until restarted.

Est. Repair Cost: £150–£450
Warning Signs:

Touchscreen freezes, remains black on startup, or reboots spontaneously while driving, Unresponsive touchscreen sliders when attempting to adjust ventilation or cabin temperature, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto phone connection repeatedly disconnects, Instrument binnacle 3D graphics flicker or reset to factory layout

What to Inspect:
  • Operate all touchscreen functions, including climate controls, audio, and navigation for lag
  • Test reverse camera display to confirm image activates promptly without black screen delay
  • Check with a Peugeot franchised dealership whether the infotainment unit is running latest firmware

Front Suspension Drop Link and Top Mount Wear

MinorSuspension & Chassis

The front suspension setup on the CMP platform features anti-roll bar drop links and strut top mount bearings that suffer accelerated wear under UK road conditions, including potholes and traffic calming speed humps. Worn ball joints and perished mount rubber generate knocking noises over uneven road surfaces and cause steering creaks during low-speed parking manoeuvres.

Est. Repair Cost: £120–£320
Warning Signs:

Persistent knocking or rattling noise from front wheel wells over uneven road surfaces, Creaking or groaning sound from front suspension when turning steering wheel at low speeds, Slight steering vagueness or wandering over rutted UK road surfaces, Advisories recorded on annual UK MOT tests for suspension link pin play

What to Inspect:
  • Drive over speed cushions and rough surfaces with windows down to listen for front suspension knocks
  • Turn steering wheel from lock to lock while stationary to detect any strut top bearing groaning
  • Check front tyres for uneven tread wear indicative of suspension tracking misalignment
