Front Lower Wishbone Rear Console Bush Deterioration
ModerateSuspension & ChassisThe voided rubber console bushes on the rear of the front lower wishbones are a notorious weakness on the PQ24 platform. Over UK road humps and potholes, the rubber splits and perishes rapidly, allowing excessive movement of the front control arms. This causes front-end knocking, steering vagueness under braking, and uneven front tyre wear, resulting in an immediate MOT failure. Many UK owners replace them with solid rubber bushes from the Audi A2 or Cupra models for long-term reliability.
Dull knocking or clunking noise from the front footwells when traversing speed humps, Vagueness or squirming steering feel under firm straight-line braking, Accelerated uneven wear along the inside edges of both front tyres
- Inspect the rear console bushes through the front wheel arches with a torch for visible splitting or tearing of the rubber webbing
- Perform a firm brake application at 30 mph to check for wandering or pulling to one side
- Drive over speed humps at low speed listening for distinct mechanical clunking from the front floor pan
