2002 Mazda MX-5 1.8I 1.8L Other · AEZ 7224

The 2002 Mazda MX-5 1.8i passed its most recent MOT on 21 September 2021 at 94,971 miles with no defects recorded, so the available evidence shows a stable maintenance trend and no active roadworthiness concerns from that test. The single entry gives no sign of worsening faults or recurring advisories across the recorded period. The odometer stood at 94,971 miles at the 2021 test, equating to roughly 3,957 miles per year over the car's 24 years. That is low for its age and points to light use or extended periods off the road. The record contains just one MOT line, so we cannot track rapid accumulation or gaps in testing; the clean pass suggests basic statutory upkeep was met at that point, though nearly five years have passed since, leaving current condition unverified. A buyer should physically inspect the MX-5 for structural corrosion on sills, chassis rails, and suspension mounting points, as 24-year-old Japanese roadsters commonly suffer hidden rust where moisture traps form. Check the suspension bushes, coil springs, and damper seals for perishing from long standing, and confirm brake discs and calipers are free from binding after the lay-up implied by low mileage. Verify the tyres, wiper blades, and exhaust emissions against current standards, since the 2021 pass is now dated. Given the sparse history, commission an independent inspection before purchase to confirm the car remains mechanically sound.
