The Prince-engine 1.6 THP is notorious for timing chain stretch and tensioner failure. If the chain jumps, it can cause catastrophic valve-to-piston contact and total engine destruction.

The turbo oil return pipe on THP models can develop leaks, causing oil to drip onto the exhaust manifold or subframe. This can produce burning oil smells and, in severe cases, fire risk.

The dual-mass flywheel and clutch on THP models wear faster than expected, particularly on cars driven hard. Replacement is expensive as the clutch and DMF are usually replaced together.
