This 1985 Ford Escort’s most recent MOT test occurred over four years ago, on 2021-11-13, with a curious dual entry: one pass and one immediate fail—both without recorded defects. The absence of any advisories or faults in either entry suggests the vehicle passed all mandatory checks at the time, though the lack of subsequent testing raises immediate concerns. No further MOT history exists, leaving the vehicle’s current roadworthiness unconfirmed. The test date’s proximity to the car’s age—now 41 years old—means critical components like suspension bushes, coil springs, and binding brake calipers are likely beyond their expected lifespan, even at the low mileage of 17,744 miles. The recorded mileage of 17,744 miles over 41 years equates to an average of just 433 miles annually, far below typical usage patterns for a vehicle of this era. While low mileage can indicate lighter use or prolonged storage, it also implies extended periods without maintenance, accelerating wear on non-drive-related systems. The gap between the 2021 test and today—nearly five years—means no official inspection has verified the condition of structural elements like the chassis for corrosion, nor has the vehicle undergone emissions testing, which would have flagged deteriorating catalytic converters or exhaust leaks. The lack of intermediate mileage readings further obscures whether the car was actively used or neglected during this time. Given the absence of MOT history since 2021, a prospective buyer must prioritise a thorough inspection of high-wear items. Suspension components—particularly the rear trailing arms and their bushes—are likely degraded, as are the brake discs and calipers, which may exhibit uneven wear or binding. The chassis and sills should be scrutinised for corrosion, especially around wheel arches and the rear axle, where rust can compromise structural integrity. Tyres, though not recorded in the MOT, will require assessment for uneven tread wear or age-related cracking, given their prolonged service. The engine bay should be checked for leaks, particularly from the cooling system and power steering, as these are common failure points in older Escorts. The lack of recent MOT data makes it impossible to confirm the condition of the exhaust system or emissions compliance, both of which are critical for legal roadworthiness.
