2005 Saab 9-3 2.0L Petrol · DY55 AHJ

The vehicle is currently not roadworthy; its MOT expired on 6 March 2024. The maintenance trend is worsening, with a pass recorded on 14 March 2023 at 113 835 miles followed by a failure the previous week at 113 821 miles and another failure in March 2024 at 114 584 miles. The rapid shift from pass to failure within days indicates an intermittent fault rather than a stable condition. Mileage accumulation is low for a 21‑year‑old car, averaging roughly 5 456 miles per year. The record shows 850 miles added between the 2022 pass (112 971 miles) and the 2023 failure, a mere 14‑mile increase between the two 2023 tests, and 749 miles between the 2023 pass and the 2024 failure. The tight interval between the 2023 pass and failure suggests an intermittent issue rather than steady wear, while the overall mileage growth remains modest. Because the failures carry no recorded defects, a buyer must inspect the likely problem areas: brake discs and pads for glazing or uneven wear, the exhaust and emissions system for leaks or high pollutants, suspension bushes and coil springs for corrosion, and the underbody for rust. The low mileage reduces expected wear on tyres and drivetrain, but age demands a thorough check of the cooling system, battery capacity, and any rust‑prone structural panels. Overall, the car’s service history is sparse, with only four MOT entries over four years. The pattern of sudden failures indicates that previous owners may have neglected routine servicing. A pre‑purchase inspection should focus on the components highlighted above and verify that any outstanding repairs have been completed before the next MOT is attempted.
