1988 Jeep Wrangler 4.2L Petrol · F212 NVE

The 1988 Jeep Wrangler demonstrates a stable maintenance trend, culminating in a clean pass on 27 April 2024 with zero recorded defects at an unspecified mileage. This follows a clean pass on 05 May 2023, which successfully cleared an unusual failure recorded just months prior on 01 February 2023. That February failure listed no specific defects on the certificate, which typically indicates an administrative rejection or an immediate on-site rectification rather than a systemic mechanical breakdown. The vehicle currently displays 66,525 miles, averaging approximately 1,751 miles per year over its thirty-eight-year lifespan. This very low annual mileage profile confirms light recreational use, though such extended periods of inactivity frequently lead to perished rubber components, seized brake calipers, and accelerated corrosion on underbody structural members. The absence of historical advisory notes across the recent tests suggests either careful storage or a tendency to address wear items independently of the annual inspection cycle. Prospective buyers must conduct a rigorous physical inspection focusing on the structural integrity of the ladder-type chassis and body mount points, as early Jeep models are notoriously susceptible to rust and corrosion hidden beneath underseal. You should also thoroughly examine the leaf spring suspension bushes, steering dampeners, and four-wheel-drive drivetrain components for signs of weeping seals and aged rubber degradation caused by intermittent usage. Verifying the chassis numbers against the registration document and checking for excessive play in the steering box will ensure the vehicle remains mechanically sound and fit for the road.
