1996 Ford Fiesta 1.2L Petrol · P864 HHJ

This 1996 Ford Fiesta’s most recent MOT, conducted on 1 September 2021, resulted in a clean pass with no defects recorded. The absence of advisories or failings in that test suggests the vehicle met all statutory roadworthiness criteria at the time, though the five-year gap since then means no further official assessment has been conducted. Without intervening MOTs or service records, there is no evidence of recurring mechanical issues or a pattern of deferred maintenance. However, the lack of recent testing introduces uncertainty about the current condition of critical components, particularly those prone to gradual deterioration such as suspension bushes, coil springs, and brake systems. The recorded mileage of 57,355 miles over approximately 30 years equates to an average of around 1,912 miles per year, which is unusually low for a vehicle of this age. Such low mileage could indicate prolonged periods of non-use, which may have contributed to issues such as flat tyres, seized components, or degraded fluids. The absence of any MOTs between 2021 and the current date further complicates assessment, as even minimal annual use would typically warrant periodic checks. The sparse data makes it impossible to determine whether the vehicle has been stored properly or driven inconsistently, both of which could exacerbate wear on non-drive-related parts like electrical systems or interior components. Given the extended gap since the last MOT, a prospective buyer should prioritise a thorough inspection of the suspension system, including the condition of bushes, dampers, and coil springs, as these components degrade over time even with low mileage. Binding or uneven brake calipers, warped discs, or excessive corrosion on brake lines should be checked, especially if the vehicle has been stationary for extended periods. Structural integrity, particularly around wheel arches and sills, should also be examined for signs of rust penetration or weakened sections, as these can compromise safety. The electrical system, including lights, indicators, and the horn, should be tested, as prolonged inactivity can lead to battery failure or corroded connections. Finally, the interior should be inspected for signs of water ingress or mould, which are common in vehicles left unused for years.
