The vehicle’s most recent MOT test on 2024-07-16 passed without defects, but the preceding three tests—all within a six-month window—were failures with no recorded issues logged. This pattern suggests either a prolonged period of non-use between tests or an administrative oversight in reporting faults, as no mechanical defects were consistently identified. The latest pass occurred just over two years ago, placing it well beyond the current MOT validity period, which expired on 2026-07-15. Without recent testing, there is no confirmation of current roadworthiness, particularly for components subject to gradual degradation such as suspension bushes, coil springs, or brake binding. The recorded mileage of 142,688 miles over approximately 27 years equates to an average of around 5,285 miles annually, which is unusually low for a vehicle of this age. The most significant mileage jump appears between the 2023-04-28 tests, where the vehicle remained stationary for at least three months without movement, as evidenced by the identical date for both a pass and a fail. This suggests extended periods of inactivity, which could accelerate issues like fuel system stagnation, tyre degradation, or battery discharge. The lack of intermediate mileage readings makes it impossible to verify whether the vehicle was driven regularly between tests or if the low mileage reflects deliberate underuse. Given the inconsistent MOT history and prolonged periods without testing, a buyer should prioritise an independent inspection of critical high-wear components. Focus on the suspension system—particularly the rear bushes and coil springs—for signs of dry rot or excessive play, as these are common failure points in older BMWs with low mileage. The braking system warrants thorough examination, including disc thickness, caliper binding, and master cylinder condition, despite no recorded faults. Structural integrity should also be assessed, especially around wheel arches, sills, and the subframe, where corrosion can develop even with minimal movement. The absence of recorded defects does not preclude latent issues, particularly in a vehicle that has spent extended periods stationary.
