The 2.0 diesel engine suffers from premature timing chain wear, often called "timing chain slap" as the chain stretches and hits the guides. This is primarily caused by oil dilution from interrupted DPF regenerations thinning the lubricant.

Interrupted DPF regenerations cause diesel to leak into the oil sump. When calculated dilution reaches 6% to 7%, the "Service Required" warning is triggered, often as early as 6,000–8,000 miles regardless of the official 21k-mile interval.

Blocked drains and poor sealing can lead to wet carpets and electrical faults.
