2003 Nissan Micra 1.4L Petrol · YF03 AKV

The 2003 Nissan Micra’s most recent MOT test on 15 October 2024—just nine months ago—confirms it remains roadworthy with no defects recorded. This consistency across the last three tests (including a duplicate 2023 entry) suggests no recurring mechanical failures, though the lack of advisories or defects does not preclude hidden wear. The vehicle’s last test was conducted at 115,100 miles, meaning it has since accumulated approximately 1,000 miles, a rate that remains unusually low for its age. The absence of failures over nearly two decades of testing—despite the vehicle’s 23-year lifespan—implies either meticulous maintenance or deferred upkeep, though the latter cannot be ruled out without further evidence. The recorded mileage pattern reveals a steady but exceptionally low annual average of around 5,000 miles, with no abrupt spikes or prolonged gaps between tests. Between September 2022 and September 2023, the vehicle covered just 3,500 miles in a year, a figure that could indicate prolonged storage or infrequent use. The duplicate MOT entry in 2023—both passing at the same mileage—may reflect an administrative error rather than mechanical repetition, but it does not alter the overall trend of stability. Such low mileage can mitigate some wear concerns, particularly in suspension components and brake systems, though it does not exempt the vehicle from age-related degradation. Given the lack of recorded defects, a buyer should prioritise an in-person inspection of high-wear areas that are not routinely captured in MOT tests. Focus on the suspension, particularly the coil springs and bushes, for signs of fatigue or corrosion, as these are critical for structural integrity and handling. The brake system—discs, calipers, and pads—should be examined for uneven wear or binding, especially if the vehicle has been stored for extended periods, as moisture can accelerate corrosion. Additionally, check for structural rust around wheel arches, sills, and the subframe, as these areas are prone to deterioration in older models. The absence of MOT advisories does not guarantee these components are sound, so thorough visual and functional checks are essential.
