2012 Volkswagen Passat 2.0L Diesel · AJ61 CPX

The Volkswagen Passat presents a currently roadworthy status, having passed its most recent MOT on 22 March 2025 at 219,195 miles with no defects recorded. The maintenance trend appears stable across the available history, with annual tests from 2023 to 2025 showing clean passes once the initial failure on each test date was resolved. The repeated same-day fail-and-pass pattern in March 2023 at 196,310 miles and March 2025 at 219,195 miles suggests administrative or minor pre-test corrections rather than chronic mechanical decline, as no defects were logged on any failure. At roughly 14 years old the car carries 219,195 miles, equating to about 15,657 miles per year and placing it well above typical use for a 2012 Passat. Accumulation is steady rather than sporadic: the record shows 196,310 miles in March 2023, 208,339 miles in March 2024, and 219,195 miles by March 2025, a consistent 11,000 to 12,000 miles annually. No long dormant periods or sudden jumps appear. The DVSA data itself is sparse on faults, with every entry listing no defects, so the clean sheets give little warning of hidden wear but confirm no statutory advisories were raised. A buyer should still commission an in-person inspection of suspension bushes, coil springs, and brake discs given the high mileage and age. The absence of recorded advisories does not exempt the car from consumable fatigue on a 219,000-mile unit. Examine underneath for structural corrosion and check exhaust emissions against current limits, as the tester logged nothing but the record cannot reveal gradual drivetrain degradation. The same-day failure and pass entries imply the previous owner addressed any test-blocking item immediately, pointing to reactive rather than preventative care. Given the mileage, verify service history for timing belt, clutch, and turbo condition before purchase, since the MOT file stays silent on those.
