2013 Vauxhall Astra SRI Cdti 1.7L Heavy oil · BN62 HHP

This Vauxhall Astra CDTI has maintained a clean MOT history with no defects recorded in either of the two most recent tests, most recently passing on 11 May 2023 at 133,842 miles. The absence of advisories or failings suggests the vehicle has not experienced recurring mechanical issues requiring attention during the past three years. However, the most recent test occurred over three years ago, which is now well beyond the recommended annual MOT cycle for a vehicle of this age and mileage. Given the typical lifespan of critical components like suspension bushes, coil springs, and brake calipers—often exceeding 100,000 miles but subject to wear—this gap introduces uncertainty about whether deferred maintenance has been addressed. The lack of advisories in the last two tests does not guarantee stability, but it does indicate no obvious pattern of neglect or repeated failures. The recorded mileage of 133,842 miles over approximately 13 years aligns with average usage for this model, averaging around 10,300 miles annually. There are no significant gaps or spikes in mileage between the two tests, with just 3,857 miles accumulated between May 2022 and May 2023, suggesting consistent, moderate use without prolonged periods of inactivity. This pattern reduces the likelihood of severe corrosion or fluid degradation from stagnation, though it does not preclude wear from normal operation. The absence of earlier MOT records means there is no historical context for mileage trends, but the two available tests show no abrupt changes in usage that would raise immediate concerns. Given the clean MOT history, a prospective buyer should prioritise a thorough inspection of suspension components, particularly the rear bushes and coil springs, which are prone to fatigue at this mileage. The lack of advisories does not confirm their condition, so visual inspection for cracks, excessive play, or uneven tyre wear is essential. Binding or uneven brake calipers, which could have gone unnoticed without recent testing, should also be checked, as should the integrity of the exhaust system for leaks or corrosion, particularly around flanges. The CDTI engine’s turbocharger and intercooler should be examined for oil leaks or unusual wear, as these are common failure points in diesel units of this age. Finally, the underbody and wheel arches should be scrutinised for signs of structural rust, especially in areas prone to salt damage, as this can compromise the vehicle’s safety-critical frame and subframe.
