2007 BMW 3 Series 2.0L Diesel · DV57 ENE

High mileage and a history of recurring component failures define the mechanical profile of this vehicle, which shows a pattern of issues involving lighting, suspension, and braking systems. The most recent test on 02 January 2025 resulted in a pass, but it carried an advisory for both front tyres being worn close to the legal limit or worn on the edges. This follows a period of instability in the records, including a failure in January 2024 due to a fractured offside rear coil spring and incorrect headlamp aim, as well as a significant failure in November 2020 involving both the anti-lock braking system (ABS) and electronic stability control (ESC) warning lamps. The recorded mileage of 231,933 miles over approximately 19 years represents an average annual accumulation of roughly 12,207 miles. While this is a consistent usage pattern for a vehicle of this age, the high total mileage suggests significant cumulative wear on all mechanical consumables and structural components. In a vehicle of this vintage and distance travelled, the high mileage increases the likelihood of fatigue in rubber bushings, suspension linkages, and drivetrain mounts, as well as accelerated wear on the braking system and engine components. Prospective buyers should pay close attention to the suspension and braking systems during a test drive. Given the previous failure of an offside rear coil spring and the advisory regarding offside front shock absorber oil misting in 2020, it is essential to listen for any knocking, clunking, or banging noises when driving over uneven surfaces or speed bumps. Additionally, the 2021 advisories for pitted or scored rear brake discs and thinning brake pads, combined with the 2020 ABS and ESC faults, necessitate a thorough check of the braking performance. During the test drive, look for any pedal judder, pulling to one side under braking, or the engagement of any warning lights on the dashboard. The recurring issues with headlamp lenses and aim, alongside the recent advisory for front tyre wear, indicate that the vehicle's consumables and lighting assemblies require regular monitoring. The tyre wear on the edges specifically suggests a potential requirement to inspect the wheel alignment or tracking. Any investigation should also include a visual inspection of the tyre tread depth and condition to ensure they meet legal requirements, as the most recent record confirms they were approaching the legal limit.
