2013 Honda Accord 2.4L Petrol · GK62 AOB

The 2013 Honda Accord has maintained a clean MOT history with no defects recorded in either of the two most recent tests, most recently passing on 1 June 2023 at 71,766 miles. This suggests the vehicle has been kept in a stable condition over the past three years, with no recurring issues or advisories to indicate worsening mechanical concerns. The absence of any failings or even minor advisories in either test implies that previous owners—or a professional service provider—have likely addressed routine maintenance proactively, though this cannot be confirmed without service records. The recorded mileage of 71,766 miles over approximately 13 years equates to an average of around 5,520 miles annually, which is unusually low for a vehicle of this age. The gap between the May 2022 (66,053 miles) and June 2023 (71,766 miles) tests spans roughly 15,713 miles in a single year, indicating either a period of heavier use or a recent accumulation of miles. Such low overall mileage could imply the car has spent extended periods stationary, which may accelerate wear on components like suspension bushes, coil springs, and brake calipers due to lack of motion. Conversely, if the higher annual mileage is recent, it may have introduced additional stress on consumables like tyres and brake pads. Given the lack of MOT defects, the most critical areas for an in-person inspection should focus on components that degrade predictably with low-mileage stagnation or sudden increased use. The suspension system—particularly the rear coil springs and bushes—should be examined for signs of dry rot or excessive play, as prolonged inactivity can embrittle rubber components. Brake discs and calipers must be checked for uneven wear or binding, especially if the recent mileage surge suggests increased braking loads. Tyre tread depth and lateral wear patterns are also essential, as failing twice on tread in prior tests would have been a fail, but the current record does not confirm whether this was ever an issue. Structural integrity, particularly around wheel arches and sills, should be scrutinised for corrosion, as rust can develop even in low-mileage vehicles if they were stored unsheltered. Finally, the exhaust system should be inspected for leaks or excessive corrosion, as emissions-related faults are common in older models.
