2024 Toyota GT86 2.0L Petrol · VF12 KVD

The 2012 Toyota GT86 presents a stable and recently improving maintenance trend, culminating in a notably clean bill of health. The most recent test, conducted on 28 March 2026 at 93,715 miles, passed with zero defects recorded. This is a significant turnaround from the preceding years, indicating that the previous owner addressed the mechanical wear that had been accumulating. The vehicle currently meets all roadworthiness standards, but its history reveals a pattern of deferred maintenance on braking components and tyres that a buyer must scrutinise physically. The mileage accumulation of roughly 6,694 miles per year is typical for a 14-year-old sports car, suggesting consistent but not excessive use. The recorded intervals tell a clear story of wear and repair. Between the April 2024 test at 84,919 miles and the March 2025 test at 89,957 miles, the car covered 5,038 miles. During that 2025 test, the front brake discs were flagged as being in poor condition. By the time of the March 2026 test, 3,758 miles later, those defects had vanished. This implies a comprehensive brake overhaul occurred within the last year, likely encompassing new discs and pads across the axle, which is a positive sign of recent investment. Despite the clean 2026 result, the recurring nature of brake disc wear across all four corners in the April 2024 test is a critical data point. The tester flagged all four brake discs as worn, pitted, or scored, but not seriously weakened. This pattern of uniform pitting often points to aggressive driving or prolonged exposure to corrosive conditions without adequate braking heat to clear surface rust. A prospective buyer should physically inspect the current brake discs for lateral runout and measure the disc thickness against Toyota's minimum specification. The pads should be checked for uneven wear, which would indicate a sticking caliper slide pin or a binding piston, a common issue on rear calipers of this model. The tyre advisories from April 2024 add another layer of concern regarding the car's usage pattern. The tester flagged the offside rear, nearside front, and nearside rear tyres for cracking or perishing. Perishing across multiple tyres simultaneously suggests the vehicle may have stood stationary for extended periods, allowing UV and ozone damage to degrade the sidewall rubber. A buyer must carefully examine the date codes on the current set of tyres. If the tyres were replaced after the 2024 advisory, the date stamp should align with that period. If the original tyres remain, the sidewalls require close inspection for deep cracking, which constitutes a serious blow-out risk at speed.
