2016 Smart Fortwo 1.0L Petrol · WG66 XML

The latest MOT test for the 2016 SMART FORTWO has been successfully passed on 2025-04-09, indicating that the vehicle currently meets the minimum safety standards. However, reviewing the full history reveals a consistent pattern of passing with no recorded defects, which suggests a stable maintenance record over the years. The vehicle has been serviced regularly, and the absence of issues points to good overall upkeep. Still, the mileage of 19,079 recorded miles, combined with its age of approximately 10 years, warrants careful inspection. At this rate of wear, components such as the suspension, brakes, and drivetrain are likely to show signs of increased stress, especially if the car has been left stationary for extended periods. The recorded mileage of 19,079 miles translates to roughly 1,908 miles per year, which is relatively low for a vehicle of this age. This suggests the car may have experienced fewer high-mileage wear events, but it also means that parts like the tyres, bearings, and fluid systems could be nearing their service intervals. The lack of recurring defects in the MOT history is encouraging, but it does not eliminate the need for proactive checks. During a test drive, buyers should pay close attention to tyre condition, looking for any signs of cracking or perishing, as tyres on older vehicles are more prone to failure. Additionally, the braking system should be inspected for any shuddering or binding, which could indicate worn calipers or discs. For buyers who opt for a clean or sparsely documented MOT record, it is essential to focus on age-related wear indicators. Check the tyre sidewalls for any signs of damage or deterioration, and verify that the perishing is consistent with the vehicle’s build quality. The 12V battery should be tested for voltage stability and corrosion, while the cooling system should be examined for leaks or overheating tendencies. Fluid levels and condition should be assessed, particularly brake fluid and power steering fluid, as these can degrade over time. Given the vehicle’s usage profile, scheduling a service before the next mileage threshold is advisable to ensure long-term reliability. In summary, while the recent MOT outcome is positive, the mileage and age profile require a thorough pre-purchase inspection. Buyers should prioritize checking for tyre integrity, braking performance, and fluid health, especially if the car has been stored or driven infrequently. Regular maintenance checks will help mitigate the risks associated with its age and usage patterns, ensuring a safer and more dependable drive.
