The 1.9 diesel timing belt drives the water pump. If the water pump seizes, it can throw off the timing belt and cause catastrophic engine damage. Belt, tensioner, pulleys and water pump must be replaced every 40,000 miles.
The inlet manifold swirl flaps can break and be ingested by the engine, causing terminal damage. EGR valves also clog with carbon, causing rough running and limp mode.
The all-in-one ignition module fails due to heat and internal component aging.
