2008 MINI Cooper 1.6L Diesel · CK58 AGX

The most recent MOT test on 2022-09-20 confirms the vehicle passed without defects, though it follows a pattern of two consecutive retests in September 2022—one failure at 153,662 miles and a subsequent pass at 153,959 miles. This suggests the vehicle was brought in for immediate retesting after a minor oversight, likely related to a procedural or administrative issue rather than a recurring mechanical fault. The last test occurred over three years ago, which is well beyond the recommended annual MOT cycle for a vehicle of this age and mileage. No structural or safety-critical components were flagged in any entry, but the lack of recent testing raises concerns about unrecorded wear on high-mileage systems like suspension bushes, coil springs, and brake calipers. The mileage progression shows consistent usage, averaging approximately 8,550 miles annually—a rate typical for a vehicle of this age. There are no significant gaps or spikes in the recorded mileage, though the final test in 2022 was conducted just 297 miles after the failure, indicating prompt attention to a minor issue. The absence of mileage jumps suggests the vehicle has not been left unused for extended periods, which could have exacerbated corrosion or fluid degradation. However, the three-year gap since the last pass means critical components may now require closer scrutiny, particularly given the vehicle’s age and the wear expected at this mileage. Given the lack of defects in the MOT history, a buyer should prioritise an independent inspection of suspension components, including worn or cracked bushes and deteriorated coil springs, which are common failure points at this mileage. The brakes, particularly the rear calipers, should be checked for binding or excessive wear, as even minor issues can escalate over time without regular servicing. Structural integrity, especially around wheel arches and sills, should be examined for corrosion, which often develops gradually and isn’t always visible from the road. Finally, fluid levels—brake, power steering, and coolant—should be verified, as these are not routinely checked during MOTs but can fail silently over long periods of inactivity. The absence of advisories in past tests implies no prior history of major repairs, but this does not guarantee current condition.
