2006 Hyundai Matrix 1.6L Petrol · EA56 AFN

This Hyundai Matrix has maintained a consistent MOT pass record across five consecutive tests, with no defects or advisories recorded in any of the most recent examinations. The February 2026 test at 47,689 miles confirms the vehicle remains roadworthy under current DVSA standards, though the absence of any recorded issues does not preclude underlying wear beyond MOT scope. The lack of advisories suggests no recurring or unresolved mechanical concerns were identified by the tester, but this does not guarantee the absence of deferred maintenance or hidden damage. Buyers should verify whether the vehicle has undergone any off-cycle servicing or repairs between tests, as the record provides no evidence of such interventions. The mileage progression reveals an unusually low annual average of approximately 2,384 miles, which is well below the typical wear rate for a vehicle of this age. The recorded mileage increased by just 553 miles between the November 2023 and December 2024 tests—a span of nearly 13 months—indicating prolonged periods of inactivity. This pattern may suggest the vehicle was stored for extended periods, potentially accelerating issues like battery degradation, tyre degradation, or suspension component drying out. The jump from 40,866 miles in November 2021 to 45,082 miles in November 2022 (4,216 miles in under a year) stands out as the only significant acceleration, though even this remains modest compared to average usage rates. Given the vehicle’s age and the sparse MOT record, a thorough pre-purchase inspection should prioritise components not routinely tested under MOT regulations. The suspension system—particularly coil springs, bushes, and dampers—should be examined for excessive wear or corrosion, as prolonged storage can compromise rubber and metal integrity. Brake components, including calipers, pads, and discs, warrant close scrutiny for uneven wear or binding, especially if the vehicle was left stationary for extended periods. Structural integrity should also be assessed for signs of rust or frame damage, particularly around wheel arches, sills, and the underbody, where corrosion often develops undetected. Tyre condition, despite not being MOT-failed, should be verified for uneven tread wear or embedded debris, as low mileage does not preclude prolonged exposure to road hazards.
