2001 Renault Clio Expression 16V 1.1L Other · KCZ 3866

The 2001 Renault Clio Expression 1.6V has maintained a clean MOT history with no defects recorded across the last three tests, all passing in October 2022, September 2023, and October 2024 at mileages of 137,493, 138,493, and 139,341 respectively. This suggests the vehicle has been consistently roadworthy without major mechanical failures, though the absence of advisories or defects does not preclude underlying wear. The most recent test in October 2024—just under nine months ago—indicates the vehicle remains compliant with current UK roadworthiness standards, though routine checks for age-related issues such as suspension deterioration, brake pad wear, and corrosion remain essential. The recorded mileage of 139,341 miles over 25 years equates to approximately 5,574 miles annually, which is unusually low for a vehicle of this age. The consistency in mileage increments—around 950 miles per year—implies minimal active use, potentially pointing to storage or infrequent driving. This low mileage could mitigate some wear concerns, but it also raises questions about fluid changes, component fatigue from prolonged inactivity, and the risk of seized or degraded parts due to lack of movement. The gap between tests—roughly 12 months each—aligns with MOT frequency, but no advisories or defects suggest no major neglect was evident during those periods. Given the lack of recorded faults, a buyer should prioritise an in-person inspection of high-wear areas prone to deterioration in a vehicle of this age. Focus on the suspension system, particularly the condition of coil springs, bushes, and dampers, as these components degrade over time regardless of mileage. Brake discs and calipers should be examined for uneven wear or binding, while the exhaust system must be checked for rust perforation or leaks, which could indicate corrosion progression. Additionally, inspect the underbody for structural rust, especially around wheel arches and sills, as this is a common failure point in older Renault models. Tyre tread depth and lateral wear patterns, though not flagged in MOTs, warrant verification to ensure no hidden damage or uneven loading.
