1996 Ford Transit 2.5L Diesel · N898 COV

The vehicle currently holds a roadworthy status following a clean pass on April 8, 2024, at 95,438 miles. The maintenance trend appears stable, as the vehicle successfully cleared its most recent inspection without any recorded defects. While the history shows previous failures in 2022 and early 2024, the subsequent passes indicate that the previous owner was willing to rectify identified faults to bring the van back up to DVSA standards. At approximately 30 years old, this Ford Transit shows exceptionally low mileage, averaging roughly 3,181 miles per year. The data reveals significant periods of inactivity, such as the 2,042-mile gap covered between October 2022 and April 2024. This low usage often reduces the mechanical wear on the drivetrain and engine components, but it increases risks associated with vehicle stagnation. Long stationary periods frequently lead to the degradation of rubber components, including perished suspension bushes, seized brake calipers, and internal corrosion which may not manifest in immediate failure despite the low distance driven. A physical inspection must focus on the structural integrity of the chassis and load floor area, as a 1996 Transit is prone to deep-seated corrosion that MOT tests only catch partially. Given the intermittent usage pattern, the buyer should check for cracking in sidewalls and fluid leaks from seals that have dried out. Because the most recent record shows no specific defects despite previous failures, a thorough check of the braking system and suspension geometry is necessary to ensure that the issues identified during the previous failures were properly resolved rather than merely masked.
