1996 Ford Transit 2.5L Diesel · P867 DPY

The vehicle currently presents an uncertain roadworthiness status due to a lack of MOT testing data for over four years. The last recorded test on 8 December 2021 at 121,369 miles resulted in a failure with no specific defects listed, suggesting a mechanical or emissions-related issue that prevented an immediate pass. Since that date, the vehicle has not undergone a formal DVSA inspection, meaning there is no evidence to confirm the current state of its structural integrity or mechanical components as of present standards. The mileage profile is remarkably low for a thirty-year-old Transit, averaging approximately 4,000 miles per year. Between June 2018 and July 2019, the vehicle covered only 1,652 miles, indicating very light use or long periods of storage. The gap of 3,671 miles recorded between July 2019 and January 2021 shows a slight increase in usage. While low mileage generally reduces wear on the drivetrain, it often leads to the degradation of rubber components, potentially seized brake calipers, perished suspension bushes, and accelerated corrosion from lack of regular movement. A buyer must prioritise a thorough physical inspection of the chassis and structural members for deep-seated rust, as older Transits are prone to structural failure if left stationary. The failure in late 2021 at 121,369 miles warrants a close look at the engine and exhaust system to check for oil leaks or cracks that may have caused the initial test failure. Verify the condition of the braking system, including flexible hoses and brake discs, to ensure the vehicle has not suffered from internal corrosion during its extended period without recent testing.
