The vehicle's most recent MOT test on 10 June 2023 at 19,161 miles resulted in a first-time pass with no defects or advisories recorded. However, this single clean record offers minimal insight into the machine’s long-term condition; the maintenance trend cannot be classified as stable, worsening, or improving based on one isolated snapshot. From the current date of 09 August 2026, the MOT has expired by more than three years, meaning the motorcycle is no longer legally roadworthy without a fresh test. The recorded mileage of 19,161 miles across a 1998 Yamaha XJ600 equates to roughly 684 miles per year, which is exceptionally low for a machine of this age. This pattern suggests light usage or extended periods of static storage rather than continuous high-mileage wear. The sparse data, with only a single test entry, makes it impossible to verify any mileage accumulation trend between years. A machine that stands idle for long stretches can suffer more internal deterioration than one used regularly; stale fuel, perished rubber, and corroded electrical contacts are common consequences of long lay-ups. A prospective buyer must scrutinise components that degrade with time rather than miles. Check the tyres for age-related cracking and hardening, the brake hoses for perishing, and the pistons and calipers for binding caused by dried-out seals. The fork seals and suspension bushes deserve close attention, as do the carburettor diaphragms and the interior of the fuel tank, where rust can form silently. The three-year gap since the last test means the brake fluid, engine oil, and coolant will all require a complete change, and the battery will likely need replacement before the bike can be considered dependable.
