2005 Vauxhall Astra 1.6L Petrol · SE54 AMX

The vehicle’s most recent MOT on 2022-06-25 at 76,016 miles resulted in a fail, though no defects were recorded. Subsequent tests from 2018 to 2021 showed consistent passes with no reported issues, indicating a stable maintenance record prior to the 2022 failure. The lack of specific defects in the latest test raises questions about the thoroughness of the assessment or potential undetected faults. Given the four-year gap since the last MOT, the car’s current roadworthiness cannot be confirmed without a fresh inspection. The vehicle’s mileage of 76,016 miles at 21 years old equates to an average of 3,620 miles annually, significantly below typical usage for its age. This suggests periods of inactivity, which can accelerate wear on components like rubber seals, fluids, and electrical systems. The MOT history shows regular annual testing between 2018 and 2021, with no gaps, but the extended interval since 2022 may have allowed undetected issues to develop. The absence of recorded defects in prior tests implies good maintenance up to that point, though the 2022 fail warrants scrutiny. A buyer should prioritise inspecting the suspension, brakes, and exhaust systems, as these are common failure points in older vehicles. The low mileage may mask wear from inactivity, such as corroded brake discs or seized suspension bushes. Structural integrity should also be checked, as rust can develop in stagnant conditions. The 2022 MOT failure, without recorded defects, highlights the need for a detailed pre-purchase inspection to identify any hidden issues not captured in the MOT records.
