2010 Hyundai IX35 Style 2WD Crdi 134 2.0L Heavy oil · SHZ 4486

The Hyundai ix35 has maintained an unblemished MOT record across six consecutive tests, with the most recent January 2026 inspection at 39,608 miles showing no defects or advisories. This consistency suggests a vehicle that has either been well-maintained under a disciplined regime or, more likely, driven infrequently enough to avoid accumulating significant wear. The absence of recurring advisories or failures—particularly on critical systems like brakes, suspension, or emissions—indicates no obvious deterioration in structural integrity or mechanical reliability. That said, the near-three-year gap between the November 2023 and January 2026 tests (covering just 6,224 miles) raises questions about whether the car has been stored or used sparingly, which could mask latent issues in components like rubber seals, hoses, or battery health. The ix35’s mileage of 39,608 over 16 years—averaging just 2,476 miles annually—is unusually low for its age, particularly given its diesel engine and 2WD drivetrain, which typically see higher usage. The recorded figures show minimal accumulation: only 3,215 miles were added between August 2022 (31,620 miles) and November 2023 (33,384 miles), followed by another 3,215 miles in the subsequent 15 months. Such stagnation could imply the vehicle has spent extended periods off the road, potentially leading to issues like seized bearings, degraded fluids, or corrosion in underbody components. Buyers should verify whether the car has been regularly driven or left dormant, as the latter may have hidden consequences for long-term reliability. Given the clean MOT history, a prospective buyer should prioritise a thorough inspection of components prone to neglect in low-mileage scenarios. Check the condition of suspension bushes, coil springs, and ball joints for dry rot or cracking, as these can degrade even with minimal use. Examine the brake system for binding calipers, corroded discs, or uneven wear—symptoms that might not surface until the vehicle is driven more regularly. Inspect the exhaust system for rust or leaks, particularly around the DPF and catalytic converter, given the diesel engine’s susceptibility to clogging if driven infrequently. Finally, assess the battery’s health and the condition of rubber seals around doors, bonnet, and boot, as prolonged storage can accelerate deterioration in these areas. While the MOT record is reassuring, the vehicle’s low mileage and long gaps between tests warrant extra scrutiny to confirm no deferred maintenance has compromised its long-term durability.
