2001 Suzuki GSXR600 0.6L Petrol · Y446 BJT

The most recent MOT recorded for this Suzuki GSXR600 was a pass on 1 July 2022. Looking at the historical data, the maintenance trend appears stable and reactive. While the vehicle has experienced several failures over the years, these have been limited to specific, non-structural components such as a faulty indicator, a missing exhaust mounting, and insufficient tyre tread. Each failure was followed by a successful pass, suggesting that necessary repairs were undertaken to meet legal compliance. There is no evidence of escalating mechanical neglect or systemic structural issues in the recent testing history. With a recorded mileage of 17,251 over approximately 25 years, this motorcycle has been used very sparingly, averaging roughly 690 miles per annum. This extremely low mileage suggests the vehicle has likely been subject to long periods of standing or seasonal storage. From a mechanical perspective, while the engine and drivetrain will have low cumulative wear, the lack of regular movement presents a different set of risks. Low-use vehicles are often more prone to age-related degradation of consumables and fluids than high-mileage vehicles that are regularly cycled through their operating temperatures. Given the low usage profile, a physical inspection must focus on components that perish due to time rather than distance. Closely examine the tyres for sidewall cracking or perishing, as rubber degrades and loses grip even if the tread depth remains high. Check the brake discs for heavy surface corrosion or pitting, and ensure the calipers are not binding, which can occur if the bike has sat stationary for extended periods. You should also inspect the fork seals for any signs of oil weeping, as rubber seals can dry out and fail when not regularly lubricated by movement. Furthermore, pay close attention to the condition of all fluids and the electrical system. Given the age, the brake fluid and coolant should be checked for moisture contamination or degradation, and a full system flush may be required. Inspect the drive chain for signs of rust or stiff links, as referenced in older advisories, and ensure the sprocket teeth are not unevenly worn. Finally, verify the health of the 12V battery and check for any oxidation on the electrical connections or terminals, which can cause intermittent starting issues or electrical faults in vehicles that have been stored for long durations.
