2016 Citroen C3 1.2L Petrol · 4 EJW

The most recent MOT test on 2026-04-15 was passed with no recorded defects, marking a positive turn in the vehicle’s roadworthiness history. While the previous MOT in January 2025 revealed several advisories—including corrosion of the offside rear coil spring, thin brake pads on the nearside rear, and sidewall damage to the nearside front tyre—this latest test shows no further issues, suggesting a stable maintenance trend. The absence of repeated failures or worsening conditions since then indicates that the vehicle has either been properly serviced or that the earlier advisories were either resolved or less critical than initially flagged. However, the persistence of the rear coil spring corrosion and brake pad wear advisories from 2025 warrants further attention, as these may indicate underlying wear patterns that could escalate with continued use. The vehicle’s recorded mileage of 33,321 miles at the time of this assessment is unusually low for a ten-year-old Citroën C3, particularly given that the car has accumulated just 3,332 miles annually on average. Such a low mileage rate often reflects periods of extended stationary use, which can lead to specific wear concerns. For instance, stationary vehicles are prone to brake disc corrosion or binding calipers due to standing corrosion, particularly if the brakes were frequently applied while stationary. Additionally, suspension components like coil springs and bushes can degrade more rapidly when a vehicle remains idle for prolonged periods, as lubricants can dry out and corrosion can accelerate. Tyres, too, may show signs of perishing from prolonged exposure to sunlight and oxygen, especially if the vehicle has been parked in a location with high UV exposure. The nearside rear tyre nail and sidewall damage from previous MOTs further suggest that the vehicle may have been subjected to minor impacts or road debris, which could have contributed to the sidewall wear observed. To proceed with a thorough inspection, the prospective buyer should prioritise checks on the suspension and braking systems, given the recurring advisories. The corrosion of the offside rear coil spring is critical; during a test drive, listen for uneven suspension clunks or excessive play in the rear axle area, which could indicate spring failure or bush wear. The thin brake pads on the nearside rear should be verified with a visual inspection of the brake discs for signs of glazing or excessive heat warping, which can cause binding. Listen for uneven brake pedal travel or a shuddering sensation during braking, as these may signal disc warping or warped brake pads. Additionally, the nearside front tyre sidewall damage should be inspected for cracks or bulges, as these can indicate underlying tyre failure risks. If the vehicle has been stationary for extended periods, check for brake disc corrosion or rust buildup around the wheel nuts and brake calipers, which could lead to reduced braking efficiency. For a vehicle of this age and mileage profile, the buyer should also conduct a comprehensive physical inspection focused on age-related wear and fluid condition. Given the low annual mileage, the tyre tread depth should be checked for any signs of perishing or cracking in the sidewall, as this can compromise tyre integrity over time. Inspect the 12V battery for signs of corrosion on terminals, swelling, or reduced charge capacity, as a failing battery can lead to electrical system failures. The fluid levels and condition of the engine oil, coolant, brake fluid, and differential fluid should be verified, with particular attention to the coolant system for signs of leaks or overheating history, as standing vehicles are more susceptible to coolant degradation. Finally, review the service history for any missing or overdue maintenance, such as timing belt replacement or suspension component servicing, which are critical for a vehicle of this age. If the vehicle has been in use, the annual mileage should be monitored to ensure it does not rise significantly, as this could accelerate wear on consumables like brake pads, tyres, and suspension components.
