1984 Volkswagen Golf 1.8L Petrol · A341 OVR

The Volkswagen Golf presents as roadworthy with a stable maintenance trend. The most recent test on 28 April 2025 at 146,870 miles returned a pass with no defects recorded, matching the clean result from 13 May 2024 at 146,181 miles. Two consecutive annual tests with zero advisories or failures indicate the vehicle has been maintained to a standard that satisfies current roadworthiness requirements. The recorded mileage shows remarkably low use for a 42-year-old vehicle. Between May 2024 and April 2025 the odometer advanced only 689 miles, equating to roughly 3,500 miles per year across the car's life. Such low accumulation suggests extended periods of storage or infrequent leisure use rather than daily commuting. The MOT history supplied contains just two entries with no gaps in testing but no earlier records to confirm long-term care patterns. A buyer should still commission a physical inspection of structural integrity and corrosion, given the vehicle's 1984 manufacture and the absence of any advisory data in the record. Forty years of age invites hidden rust in sills, floor pans, and suspension mounting points that a pass certificate does not necessarily expose on a visual test. Suspension bushes, coil springs, and brake calipers warrant hands-on checks for perishing or binding, as low-mileage classics often suffer degradation from standing rather than wear. The clean MOT trail offers reassurance, but it does not substitute for underside examination before purchase.
