1997 Land Rover Discovery 2.5L Diesel · A5 VPW

The 1997 Land Rover Discovery presents a stable maintenance trend, with the most recent MOT test on 17 April 2025 at 127,668 miles resulting in a pass with zero defects recorded. The vehicle passed its MOT on the same day it previously failed, indicating any initial issues were rectified immediately. Across the available history, the mechanical condition remains consistent, showing no recurring faults or advisories. This pattern suggests the owner addresses faults promptly before presenting the vehicle for a retest, though the absence of recorded defects on the failure entries limits insight into the exact nature of the initial rejections. Note that the current MOT certificate expired in April 2026, meaning the vehicle has not been tested for over a year. The mileage accumulation is notably low for a 29-year-old vehicle, averaging roughly 4,402 miles per year. Between the 5 July 2024 test at 127,368 miles and the 17 April 2025 test at 127,668 miles, the odometer advanced by only 300 miles over a nine-month period. Such minimal usage implies the vehicle has spent considerable time stationary, which carries its own mechanical risks. Prolonged standing can cause tyre flat-spotting, brake disc corrosion, and deterioration of rubber suspension bushes and seals, even if the mileage remains low. Despite the clean MOT record, a buyer must inspect the Discovery thoroughly for issues associated with low-mileage, long-term storage. Check the condition of the tyres for sidewall cracking and the brake discs for surface corrosion, as standing vehicles rarely generate enough heat to wipe condensation from the friction surfaces. Examine the suspension bushes and drivetrain components for perishing, and inspect the underbody and chassis rails for structural corrosion, a common affliction on older Discoveries. The lack of recorded defects in the MOT history is encouraging, but a physical inspection remains essential to verify the structural integrity and mechanical fitness of a vehicle that has clearly seen very light use.
