2002 Mazda 323 1.6L Petrol · AE02 MVH

The 2002 Mazda 323 currently holds no valid MOT certificate, rendering it untaxed and illegal for road use. The most recent test on 19 November 2021 at 69,175 miles resulted in a failure, yet the DVSA record lists no specific defects. This anomaly suggests an aborted test or an administrative rejection rather than a mechanical condemnation. With no subsequent tests recorded, the maintenance trend is impossible to determine; the vehicle has sat outside the testing regime for nearly five years. The recorded mileage of 69,175 miles equates to an average of roughly 2,882 miles per year, which is exceptionally low for a vehicle of this age. Such minimal usage typically indicates prolonged periods of inactivity rather than gentle commuting. The MOT record provides no mileage history to track accumulation, leaving a significant gap in understanding how the car was used prior to 2021. Long-term standing often inflicts more damage on a vehicle than regular driving, as fluids degrade and components seize. Given the absence of recent mechanical data and the likelihood of extended dormancy, a pre-purchase inspection must focus on the ravages of time and inactivity. Tyres and rubber suspension bushes will almost certainly have perished, developing cracks and losing structural integrity regardless of remaining tread depth. Brake calipers may well be binding, and discs will likely exhibit severe surface corrosion from sitting damp. The exhaust system and fuel lines require close scrutiny for corrosion and degradation. A thorough assessment of the underbody and sills is essential to verify structural integrity, as older Mazdas of this era are highly susceptible to rust.
