2005 Skoda Octavia 1.8L Diesel · AE55 LJY

The Skoda Octavia presents as roadworthy with a stable maintenance trend. The most recent test on 20 May 2025 at 88,796 miles returned a pass with no defects recorded, and the two prior annual tests in May 2024 and June 2023 also closed as passes. The record shows two same-day failures on 21 May 2024 and 1 June 2023 at 79,857 and 73,973 miles respectively, yet both were followed immediately by passes with no defects listed. This pattern suggests administrative or presentation anomalies at the testing station rather than outstanding mechanical faults, and no advisories for corrosion, suspension bushes, brake discs, or emissions appear anywhere in the history. At roughly 21 years old the car shows 88,796 recorded miles, an average of about 4,228 miles per year. The odometer moved from 73,973 miles on 2 June 2023 to 79,857 miles on 21 May 2024, then to 88,796 miles by 20 May 2025. Annual use sat near 6,000 miles in the last two years, slightly above the lifetime average but still low for the age. Low mileage of this order often means long stationary periods, which can allow moisture ingress and perished rubber components even when the test sheet stays clean. A buyer should still commission a physical inspection beneath the car. The MOT record flags no structural integrity issues or exhaust defects, but standing time on a 2005 chassis invites unseen subframe corrosion and degraded coil springs that a visual test may miss. Check the brake calipers for binding after a road test, and confirm the suspension bushes show no age-related cracking. Given the absent advisories across five tests, previous keepers appear to have maintained basic test compliance. The same-day fail-then-pass entries imply the vehicle was never left with recorded faults. Treat the clean sheet as a positive, but verify in person that low use has not hidden dormant wear.
