2006 Renault Megane 1.5L Diesel · AF56 OPM

A rare clean sheet across five consecutive MOT tests spanning late 2021 through December 2025 defines this 2006 Renault Megane, with no advisories, failures, or component wear notes recorded on the official DVSA history. The vehicle passed its most recent examination on 23 December 2025 without a single defect logged, and the four preceding tests from January 2024, January 2023, and December 2021 mirror that outcome identically. For a car of this age and mileage bracket, such an unbroken advisory-free run is unusual and points to a vehicle that has consistently met minimum roadworthiness standards on every tested component, from brakes and suspension to exhaust emissions and lighting. The absence of any flagged corrosion, exhaust leaks, or structural advisories over a four-year window is particularly noteworthy for a Renault of this generation, which is commonly associated with age-related underbody and subframe deterioration. Recorded mileage of 168,338 against an approximate 20-year age equates to an annual accumulation of around 8,417 miles, which sits broadly in line with typical usage for a car of this vintage. The MOT history reflects consistent road presence without extended off-road periods, although there is a notable gap between the January 2023 test and the December 2021 test preceding it, with no recorded examination during 2022 or early 2023 visible in the supplied data. The progressive mileage recorded across successive tests appears steady rather than exhibiting any sudden spikes or unrealistic drops that might suggest clock discrepancies. Mechanically, this level of use implies that consumable items such as brake pads, discs, tyres, and clutch components will have experienced multiple replacement cycles, while major drivetrain elements including the gearbox and engine internals will have accumulated substantial working hours under normal load conditions. Given the clean advisory record, a prospective buyer should focus inspection efforts on areas not always captured thoroughly by standard MOT testing, particularly the condition of the lower engine and gearbox for oil weepage, and the cooling system for signs of age-related hose or radiator degradation. During a test drive, listen carefully for any clonks or knocks from the front suspension over speed humps and uneven road surfaces, as Meganes of this era are prone to wear in the front wishbone bushes, anti-roll bar drop links, and top mount bearings even when not flagged at test. Brake pedal feel should be firm and progressive without excessive travel or sponginess, and the steering should remain centred with no significant pull to either side under braking or acceleration, which could indicate worn suspension geometry components. The exhaust system warrants a physical inspection from underneath, paying close attention to the front flex joint and rear silencer box for any signs of corrosion or blowing, as these components degrade progressively with age and heat cycling. On the interior, check for warning lights on the instrument cluster particularly any engine management or emission-related indicators, and verify that all electrical consumers function correctly including the central locking, electric windows, and climate control, as Megane electrical faults are a known weak point. Finally, inspect the bodywork for any bubbling paint or corrosion along the wheel arches, sills, and tailgate bottom edge, areas that can deteriorate on older vehicles regardless of MOT outcome. A compression test or oily foam check from the oil filler cap would also be prudent given the mileage, to rule out internal engine wear before committing to purchase.
