2015 Toyota Yaris 1.3L Petrol · AF65 CVT

The 2015 Toyota Yaris has passed its most recent MOT test on 2025-09-10 with no recorded defects, marking a stable maintenance record over the past three years. While the vehicle has not encountered any failures, the advisory history from 2022 and 2021—particularly the repeated tyre cracking or perishing across all four tyres and the 2020 offside rear brake service requirement—suggests a pattern of wear-related issues that warrant closer attention. The absence of failures in the last two tests indicates either effective remedial action or a vehicle that has been maintained to avoid critical issues, but the advisories from earlier years imply that certain consumables and components may have been neglected or subjected to gradual degradation over time. The recorded mileage of 11,536 miles for a vehicle aged approximately 11 years represents an unusually low annual usage rate of around 1,049 miles per year, which is significantly below the typical wear rates for a car of this age. Such low mileage can result from prolonged periods of inactivity, particularly if the vehicle has been stored in conditions that accelerate tyre perishing, corrosion of metal components, or fluid degradation. However, it is also possible that the vehicle has been driven sparingly, potentially leading to less wear on drivetrain and suspension components but increasing the risk of standing-related issues such as brake disc corrosion, binding calipers, or suspension bush stiffness due to lack of movement. The discrepancy between the mileage and age underscores the importance of a thorough inspection to verify whether the vehicle has been exposed to environmental factors that could compromise its structural integrity or mechanical systems. Given the MOT history’s focus on tyre wear and a single brake-related advisory, the prospective buyer should conduct a meticulous visual and functional inspection. First, examine all four tyres for signs of cracking, perishing, or uneven wear patterns, particularly around the shoulder and tread edges, which were flagged in the 2022 and 2021 advisories. On a test drive, listen for irregular brake noise or a slight lag in response when applying the offside rear brake, which may indicate worn brake pads or a need for servicing. Additionally, check for any fluid leaks under the vehicle, as low mileage could mean older fluids like brake fluid, differential fluid, and coolant have not been changed, leading to potential corrosion or seal failure. Inspect the suspension for stiffness or unusual clunking noises when driving over bumps, which could signal worn suspension bushes or coil spring degradation. For a vehicle of this age and mileage profile, the buyer should also assess the following critical areas: the 12-volt battery health, as prolonged disuse can lead to sulfation or terminal corrosion; the condition of the brake discs and calipers for signs of corrosion or binding, especially if the vehicle has been stationary for extended periods; and the overall structural integrity of the chassis and bodywork for rust or damage. Given the low mileage, the tyre sidewall should be checked for age-related perishing, which can compromise safety even if tread depth remains legal. Finally, verify that service records confirm the last fluid changes, particularly for the engine oil, coolant, and brake fluid, as these should have been replaced at the manufacturer-recommended intervals—typically every 60,000 to 100,000 miles or every 5 to 10 years, whichever comes first. If the vehicle has been stored in a damp or cold environment, additional checks for corrosion on the exhaust system, fuel system components, and underbody areas are essential.
