2009 Honda CBF 125 M-9 0.1L Petrol · AO58 XWG

A pattern of intermittent brake-related advisories and specific component failures defines the mechanical history of this Honda CBF 125. While the most recent MOT on 24 August 2023 resulted in a pass with no recorded defects, the preceding years show a history of issues regarding braking performance and tyre suitability. Previous inspections have flagged front brake pads nearing minimum limits, as well as instances of the front brake binding or sticking. A failure in July 2022 specifically noted a missing rear footrest and the incorrect fitment of a front-designed tyre to the rear wheel, indicating that while the recent record is clean, the vehicle has required intervention for both safety-critical components and general assembly. The recorded mileage of 48,967 miles over a 17-year lifespan represents a relatively low annual accumulation of approximately 2,880 miles. This usage profile suggests the motorcycle has not been subjected to high-frequency, long-distance commuting, which typically results in more rapid wear of drivetrain and engine components. However, such low annual mileage can sometimes correlate with longer periods of inactivity, which may affect rubber components and seals. The testing intervals have remained relatively consistent, though the gap between the 2020 and 2021 tests suggests a period where the vehicle was not tested annually, which should be noted alongside the low overall mileage. Prospective buyers should pay close attention to the braking system during a test ride, given the recurring advisories for binding and low pad thickness. Listen for any unusual noises when applying the front or rear brakes and feel for any unevenness or pulsing in the brake levers, which could indicate sticking calipers or uneven pad wear. Because the 2022 failure involved an incorrectly fitted tyre, a physical inspection of the current tyre tread patterns and sidewall markings is necessary to ensure that both front and rear tyres are correctly specified for their respective positions. Additionally, the previous failure regarding the rear footrest necessitates a check of all footpeg assemblies and mounting bolts to ensure they are secure and complete. Given the history of brake binding, it is advisable to observe how the wheels rotate freely when the motorcycle is on a stand to ensure there is no residual drag from the brake pads. While the 2023 test showed no defects, the cumulative history of brake and tyre-related issues means that the condition of the braking hardware and the integrity of the rubber components should be the primary focus of a physical inspection.
