2009 Volvo XC60 2.4L Diesel · AV09 LCU

A pattern of recurring component wear is evident in this vehicle's MOT history, specifically regarding braking systems and tyre condition, though the most recent test on 30 October 2025 shows no recorded defects. While the vehicle has maintained a continuous passing record since 2018, the transition from brake-related advisories in 2022 and 2023 to tyre perishing notes in late 2024 suggests a shift in the types of consumable wear being flagged. The absence of defects in the latest inspection indicates that the previously noted issues have been addressed or have not yet reached a threshold requiring failure. The recorded mileage of 120,064 miles over approximately 17 years represents an average annual accumulation of roughly 7,063 miles. This usage profile is consistent with lower-than-average annual mileage for a vehicle of this age. Mechanically, this level of use suggests that while the drivetrain and engine may have experienced less total cycle wear than a high-mileage equivalent, the vehicle is more susceptible to age-related degradation of rubber components, such as the tyre perishing noted in the 2024 test, and potential issues arising from intermittent use. Prospective buyers should pay close attention to the braking system during a test drive, given the repeated advisories for worn, pitted, or scored front brake discs and thin brake pads in 2022 and 2023. It is essential to check for any pulsating sensation through the brake pedal or steering wheel when applying pressure at various speeds, which can indicate disc thickness variation or warping. Additionally, listen for any high-pitched squealing or grinding noises during deceleration, which may signal that the pads have not been adequately replaced or that the calipers are binding. The advisory regarding cracking or perishing on both front tyres in November 2024 warrants a physical inspection of the sidewalls and tread grooves for any signs of deep cracking or dry rot. During the test drive, pay close attention to any unusual road noise or vibrations that might suggest uneven wear or structural degradation of the tyre carcasses. Given the history of consumable wear, a thorough check of the suspension bushes and steering linkages for any knocks or knocks over bumps would also be prudent to ensure the vehicle's handling remains stable.
