2005 Honda Jazz 1.2L Petrol · AX05 EAP

The most recent MOT record for this 2005 Honda Jazz shows a pass in August 2022, following a failure earlier that same month due to inoperative stop and position lamps. While the vehicle has passed its most recent inspection, the overall maintenance trend suggests a history of recurring minor issues and component degradation rather than proactive preventative maintenance. The presence of repeated advisories regarding lighting, registration plate deterioration, and tyre condition indicates that while the vehicle is being kept roadworthy, repairs are often reactive, addressing faults only when they reach the threshold of an MOT failure or advisory. With a recorded mileage of 88,834 over 21 years, this vehicle has averaged approximately 4,230 miles per year. This is significantly lower than the UK national average, suggesting the car has seen light use or has spent considerable periods stationary. While low mileage generally implies less mechanical wear on the engine and drivetrain, it introduces specific risks associated with long-term standing. Such usage patterns can lead to accelerated degradation of rubber components, such as seals and hoses, and can cause fluid breakdown or moisture accumulation within the braking system and exhaust, which may not be immediately apparent through mileage alone. Prospective buyers should pay close attention to the braking system and suspension, as the MOT history shows a pattern of corrosion and wear in these areas. There have been multiple advisories concerning corroded brake pipes and hoses, as well as a major failure for a worn anti-roll bar linkage ball joint. During a test drive, listen for any knocking or clunking sounds from the front suspension when traversing uneven surfaces, which could indicate worn bushes or linkages. Additionally, monitor the brake pedal feel for sponginess or a pulsation through the pedal, which may suggest that the previously noted corrosion in the brake lines or hoses has progressed, potentially leading to fluid leaks or restricted pressure. Given the low annual mileage and the age of the vehicle, a thorough physical inspection of consumables is essential. Check the tyres thoroughly for sidewall cracking or perishing, as the 2022 advisory for tyre damage and cracking suggests the rubber may be reaching the end of its service life due to age rather than tread depth. Inspect the battery health and ensure the electrical system is stable, as low-use vehicles often suffer from shallow discharge cycles. Finally, verify the service history for evidence of calendar-based maintenance, such as regular oil changes and brake fluid flushes, to ensure that fluids have been replaced to prevent internal corrosion and component seizure caused by extended periods of inactivity.
